A patient with nephrotic syndrome and morbus Kimura (eosinophilic granuloma) showed chylous ascites. Ascites chylomicrons were analyzed and used to study the substrate specificity of lipoprotein lipase and hepatic triglyceride lipase. Ascites triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations were 191 and 12 mg/dl, respectively. Both apo CII and apo CIII content in ascites were approximately one-third of those of plasma from normal subjects. Ascites chylomicrons were incubated with either lipoprotein lipase or hepatic triglyceride lipase, which were prepared from postheparin plasma using heparin-Sepharose affinity chromatography. Lipoprotein lipase hydrolyzed ascites chylomicrons, while hepatic triglyceride lipase did not. These results suggest different functions of these two lipases in chylomicron catabolism.

Alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) is characterized by the accumulation of hepatic lipid and has no effective treatment yet. Fructus Corni is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and its extractions have demonstrated hepatoprotective properties. We hypothesize that the polysaccharides in Fructus Corni might have therapeutic effects on AFLD.

Background: Pine (Pinus koraiensis) nut oil (PNO) has been reported to have various beneficial effects on hepatic triglyceride accumulation and atherosclerosis in animal models. MicroRNAs (miRs) are involved in various diseases by modulating physiological processes. However, the mechanism underlying PNO's effects on the regulation of miRs involved in hepatic cholesterol homeostasis and inflammation remains unclear.

Objective: To explore the connection between metabolic parameters and the severity of hepatic steatosis determined through ultrasound in elderly individuals with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).
Methods: 4,663 senior individuals who were 65 years of age or older were included in this research. They were examined physically at the Ninghai Street Community Health Service Center in Yantai City between June 7, 2021, and October 15, 2021.

Introduction: Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase 1 (GPD1) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder causing hypertriglyceridemia, hepatomegaly, fatty liver, and hepatic fibrosis in infancy. It is an under-recognized cause of pediatric steatotic liver disease (SLD) with only 36 cases reported worldwide.
Method: We analyzed the clinical profile of our five cases diagnosed by exome sequencing (ES) and reviewed the published cases till December 2023 using PubMed search.

Background: Despite the popularity of a ketogenic diet, no randomized, controlled trials have evaluated its efficacy on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) progression.
Methods: We conducted an 8-week, open-label, randomized controlled trial involving 24 patients with MASLD who were randomly assigned to either the home delivery ketogenic diet or a nutrition education program on adherence to the DASH diet. The primary outcome was a reduction in hepatic steatosis as measured by transient elastography.
