Background: Aphasia is one of the most common and most debilitating after-effects of a stroke. In the acute phase of a stroke, referrals to speech-language pathology (SLP) are frequently guided by clinical impressions rather than validated tests.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the advantages of incorporating the Screening test for language disorders in adults and the elderly (DTLA) into clinical practice for detecting language disorders during the acute phase of stroke.

Transient exposure to ketamine can trigger lasting changes in behavior and mood. We found that brief ketamine exposure causes long-term suppression of futility-induced passivity in larval zebrafish, reversing the "giving-up" response that normally occurs when swimming fails to cause forward movement. Whole-brain imaging revealed that ketamine hyperactivates the norepinephrine-astroglia circuit responsible for passivity.

Prolonged local vibration (LV) is thought to promote brain plasticity through repeated Ia afferents discharge. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study therefore aimed at determining the acute after-effects of 30-min LV of the flexor carpi radialis muscle (FCR) on sensorimotor (S1, M1) and posterior parietal cortex (PPC) areas activity.

Devices for functional resistance training (FRT) during walking are often configured to resist the knee or both the hip and knee joints. Adding resistance to the hip in addition to the knee should alter the effects of training; however, these configurations have not been directly compared. We examined how FRT during walking differs during the knee or hip and knee conditions.

Acute ischemic stroke is a cerebrovascular disease associated with high mortality and severe aftereffects which is caused by the blockage of cerebral blood vessels by a thrombus or embolus. Treatments for this condition are extremely limited. Herein, we aimed to explore the potential of 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzophenone (THB), a drug that suppresses oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, to promote functional recovery through neurite outgrowth, and to identify its protective effects in a mouse model of ischemic stroke.
