The role of changes in CSF inflow in patients without intracranial pathology has been studied. The CSF outflow resistance has been calculated, by dividing the CSF pressure rise by the speed of intrathecal saline infusion. The average CSF pressure rise produced during infusion test (infusion 2 ml/min) amounted to 11.15 mmHg. The calculated CSF outflow resistance equaled to 5.58 +/- 1.1 mm Hg/ml/min. On-line computer assisted analysis during infusion test helps to shorten the procedure and makes it more precise.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the association between high outliers and intensive care unit admissions and to identify the factors contributing to high intensive care unit costs.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used data from 17 Belgian hospitals from 2018 and 2019. The study focused on the 10 most frequently admitted diagnosis-related groups in the intensive care unit.

Prevalence and Clinical Associations of Peripapillary Hyperreflective Ovoid Mass-like Structures in Craniosynostosis.

J Neuroophthalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology (JGJ-C, TE, Y-HC, LRD, RAG), Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts; Frank H. Netter Medical School (JGJ-C), North Haven, Connecticut; and Department of Anesthesiology (DZ), Critical Care and Pain Medicine, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Background: Patients with craniosynostosis are at high risk of developing elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) causing papilledema and secondary optic atrophy. Diagnosing and monitoring optic neuropathy is challenging because of multiple causes of vision loss including exposure keratopathy, amblyopia, and cognitive delays that limit examination. Peripapillary hyperreflective ovoid mass-like structures (PHOMS) are an optical coherence tomography (OCT) finding reported in association with papilledema and optic neuropathy.

Introduction: Pediatric craniofacial trauma, particularly from non-accidental trauma (NAT), is a significant cause of injury with enduring physical and psychological impacts. This study analyzes demographic patterns, injury characteristics, and trends in NAT-related craniofacial injuries to inform early identification, intervention, and prevention efforts.

Methods: Analysis of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Kids' Inpatient Database was performed for the years 2009 to 2019.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate frontal sinus volume as a potential indicator of cranial compensatory growth in unoperated normocephalic nonsyndromic sagittal craniosynostosis (NNSC) patients compared with age-matched and sex-matched controls. Previous studies have suggested that frontal sinus volume is suppressed in unoperated craniosynostosis and may be an intracranial space conservation phenomenon.

Methods: Head computed tomographies (CTs) from 22 unoperated NNSC patients at our institution were utilized in this study and matched with age-matched and sex-matched control subjects.

Background And Purpose: Up to 80% of patients diagnosed with reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) experience complications such as ischaemic stroke, intracerebral or subarachnoid haemorrhage or posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. The aim was to evaluate the incidence of complications in patients diagnosed with RCVS in our clinic.

Patients And Methods: All adult patients (age >16 years) diagnosed with RCVS at the Helsinki University Central Hospital during the period between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2022 were retrospectively identified.
