Formetanate Hydrochloride (FMT), a highly potent chemical, acts as an insecticide, acaricide, and miticide to protect various fruits and vegetables. The widespread use elevates concern about its presence in the ecosystem, impact upon human health via interaction with biological receptors. Spectroscopic and molecular modeling techniques at different temperatures were used to investigate the binding of FMT with Human serum albumin (HSA) at the molecular level.

Article Synopsis
  • Amitraz is an insecticide used to control pests like aphids and ticks, but resistance to it has developed, especially in ticks and mites like Panonychus citri.
  • Researchers sequenced the entire genome of P. citri, identifying 11,577 genes, and found a significant mutation (T752C) at the 5' untranslated region of the β-2R adrenergic-like octopamine receptor, which is linked to resistance.
  • The study concludes that this specific genetic mutation plays a key role in P. citri's resistance to amitraz, highlighting how genetic changes can influence pest susceptibility to pesticides.

Dissipation behavior and dietary risk assessment of pyridaben in open field strawberries and cucumber under Egyptian cultivation conditions.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

November 2021

Pesticide Residues and Environmental Pollution Department, Central Agricultural Pesticide Laboratory, Agricultural Research Center, Dokki, Giza, 12618, Egypt.

Pyridaben, an inhibitor of mitochondrial electron transport at complex I, is authorized in Egypt as an insecticide/acaricide for strawberries and cucumbers; thus the investigation of residues in the final consumed product is essential as to ensure consumer safety and trade barriers. Therefore, residue trials were conducted according to the in force and more critical Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) as to investigate the dissipation rate of the compound on both crops and the terminal residues in the final products. Results showed that the residue decline fits a first-order decay process with calculated half-lives of 1 and 6.

NexGard Combo, a novel topical antiparasitic product for cats, combines the insecticide/acaricide esafoxolaner with the nematocide eprinomectin and cestodicide praziquantel. The efficacy of this combination product was evaluated against two common endoparasites of global occurrence in cats, the nematode Toxocara cati and the cestode Dipylidium caninum, in five controlled studies using naturally or experimentally infected cats with parasites of North American, South African or European origin. Cats evaluated in these studies harbored patent infection of the target parasite confirmed through a pre-treatment fecal examination.
