Several aspects of lipid metabolism were evaluated in differentiating human myeloid leukemia (HL-60) cells after treatment with the tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate. Modifications accompanying the phorbol ester-induced differentiation include an increase in the incorporation of acetate into free fatty acids and neutral lipids, an increase in the amount of neutral glycerolipids, and a selective incorporation of long-chain fatty alcohols into triacylglycerols and ether-linked alkyldiacylglycerols. Additionally, an enhanced stimulation of phospholipid metabolism, as measured by the incorporation of 32P and labeled precursors of the polar head groups, could be detected within 4 hr after treatment of cells with the tumor promoter. 4-O-Methyltetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate, an analog with poor tumor-promoting activity, failed to elicit any activity on phospholipid metabolism.

Background: Long-term consumption of Western Diet (WD) is a well-established risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, there is a paucity of studies on the long-term effects of WD on the pathophysiology of CVD and sex-specific responses.
Methods: Our study aimed to investigate the sex-specific pathophysiological changes in left ventricular (LV) function using transthoracic echocardiography (ECHO) and LV tissue transcriptomics in WD-fed C57BL/6 J mice for 125 days, starting at the age of 300 through 425 days.
Results: In female mice, consumption of the WD diet showed long-term effects on LV structure and possible development of HFpEF-like phenotype with compensatory cardiac structural changes later in life.

Background: Severe or recurring major depression is associated with increased adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), heightened atherogenicity, and immune-linked neurotoxicity (INT). Nevertheless, the interconnections among these variables in outpatient major depression (OMDD) have yet to be determined. We aim to determine the correlations among INT, atherogenicity, and ACEs in OMDD patients compared to normal controls.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFerredoxin 1 and 2 (FDX1/2) constitute an evolutionarily conserved FDX family of iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) containing proteins. FDX1/2 are cognate substrates of ferredoxin reductase (FDXR) and serve as conduits for electron transfer from NADPH to a set of proteins involved in biogenesis of steroids, hemes, ISC and lipoylated proteins. Recently, we showed that Fdx1 is essential for embryonic development and lipid homeostasis.

It has been found that severe lipid metabolism disorders are often present in patients with Psoriasis, including decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This study initially explored the impact of HDL level variations on psoriasis by collecting. This study collected 12 blood samples and 9 skin samples from psoriasis vulgaris and psoriasis vulgaris with reduced HDL levels and performed bulk RNA sequencing.

The present study was to investigate the effect of the astaxanthin high internal phase Pickering emulsion (H-AXT) on DEHP-induced liver lipid metabolism disorder and to demonstrate its possible protective mechanism. We have developed an antioxidant activity emulsion system to deliver astaxanthin into the liver to maximize its ability to protect the liver. In vitro, H-AXT intervention inhibited oxidative stress restored the level of mitochondrial membrane potential to 90 % of that of normal LO2 cells, and alleviated the imbalance of energy metabolism by protecting mitochondrial structure and function.
