Sound and Alzheimer's Disease-From Harmful Noise to Beneficial Soundscape Augmentation and Music Therapy.

Noise Health

January 2025

Institute of Hygiene and Medical Ecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.

Exposure to sound energy may be a risk factor or a therapeutic intervention for Alzheimer's disease (AD). On one hand, noise has a harmful effect on people with AD by contributing to hearing loss, sleep disturbance, oxidative stress, inflammation, and excitotoxicity. But on the other hand, clinical trials and nursing home interventions with soundscape augmentation involving natural sounds have shown promising results in alleviating psychophysiological symptoms in people with AD.

Circadian disruption of feeding-fasting rhythm and its consequences for metabolic, immune, cancer, and cognitive processes.

Biomed J

January 2025

ٰLaboratorio de Cronobiología, Departamento de Ciencia y Tecnología, Universidad Nacional de Quilmes/CONICET. Buenos Aires, Argentina. Electronic address:

The circadian system is composed by a central hypothalamic clock at the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) that communicates with peripheral circadian oscillators for daily coordination of behavior and physiology. The SCN entrain to the environmental 24-h light-dark (LD) cycle and drive daily rhythms of internal synchronizers such as core body temperature, hypothalamic-hypophysary hormones, sympathetic/parasympathetic activity, as well as behavioral and feeding-fasting rhythms, which supply signals setting core molecular clocks at central and peripheral tissues. Steady phase relationships between the SCN and peripheral oscillators keep homeostatic processes such as microbiota/microbiome composition/activity, metabolic supply/demand, energy balance, immunoinflammatory process, sleep amount and quality, psychophysiological stress, etc.

Individual Rumination in Adult Cancer Care: A Concept Analysis.

Semin Oncol Nurs

January 2025

School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, University College Dublin (UCD), Dublin, Ireland.

Objective: To conceptualize rumination in adult cancer care.

Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used to examine rumination in adults with cancer. A systematic search was conducted across psychology, nursing, medicine, and public health disciplines in PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Scopus databases from their inception to April 2024.

Operational environments are characterized by a range of psycho-physiological constraints that can degrade combatants' performance and impact on their long-term health. Neurofeedback training (NFT), a non-invasive, safe and effective means of regulating brain activity, has been shown to be effective for mental disorders, as well as for cognitive and motor capacities and aiding sports performance in healthy individuals. Its value in helping soldiers in operational condition or suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTSD) is undeniable, but relatively unexplored.

Overactive error monitoring-as measured by the error-related negativity (ERN)-is a candidate transdiagnostic risk marker for internalizing psychopathology. Previous research reported associations of the ERN and individual differences in intolerance of uncertainty (IU). These findings imply associations between the subconstructs of IU (prospective and inhibitory IU) and the ERN, which we sought to replicate and extend by testing for causal influences that might elucidate specific mechanisms underlying this association.
