Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Hadassah Medical Organization, Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel.

Background: Quality of care can be measured in several dimensions: different clinical disciplines, structures/processes/outcomes of care (SPO), and also different domains of quality (effectiveness, safety, care coordination, patient-centeredness, efficiency, timeliness, and community/population health). To our knowledge, no previous study has compared different sets of performance measures in terms of how well they cover these different aspects of quality.

Objective: Compare the content coverage of major quality measure sets from Israel, the US, and the UK.

The bacterium is able to invade lung epithelial cells and survive intracellularly. During this process, it secretes outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), however, it is currently unclear how OMVs from (PA-OMVs) affect lung epithelial cells and their impact on oxidative stress, autophagy, and other physiological activities of lung epithelial cells. In this study, we found that PA-OMVs activated oxidative stress and autophagy in cells.

Recovery support services as part of the continuum of care for alcohol or drug use disorders.

Addiction

January 2025

Harvard Medical School and Center for Addiction Medicine, Recovery Research Institute, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, USA.

Background: The definition of 'recovery' has evolved beyond merely control of problem substance use to include other aspects of health and wellbeing (known as 'recovery capital') which are important to prevent relapse to problematic alcohol or other drug (AOD) use. Developing a Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) requires consideration of interventions or services (Recovery Support Services, RSS) designed to build recovery capital which are often delivered alongside established treatment structures. Lived experience and its application to the process of engaging people, changing behaviour and relapse prevention is an essential part of these services.

Tumour cells possess a multitude of chemoresistance mechanisms, which could plausibly contribute to the ineffectiveness of chemotherapy. O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) is an important effector protein associated with Temozolomide (TMZ) resistance in various tumours. To some extent, the expression level of MGMT determines the sensitivity of cells to TMZ, but the mechanism of its expression regulation has not been fully elucidated.
