Advancing foodborne pathogen detection: a review of traditional and innovative optical and electrochemical biosensing approaches.

Mikrochim Acta

January 2025

Centro de Investigación en Biotecnología Aplicada del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Ex-Hacienda San Juan Molino Carretera Estatal Tecuexcomac-Tepetitla Km 1.5, 90700, Tlaxcala, México.

Foodborne diseases are a significant cause of morbidity (600 million cases) and mortality (420,000 deaths) worldwide every year and are mainly associated with pathogens. Besides the direct effects on human health, they have relevant concerns related to financial, logistics, and infrastructure for the food and medical industries. The standard pathogen identification techniques usually require a sample enrichment step, plating, isolation, and biochemical tests.

Tissue Perfusion and Biomarkers Assessment Following Root Coverage Procedures.

J Periodontal Res

January 2025

Division of Periodontology, Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Aim: To assess tissue perfusion changes and wound healing biomarker levels after root coverage procedures with coronally advanced flap in combination with the cross-linked xenogeneic collagen matrix (CCMX), loaded either with a placebo or recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF).

Methods: This study was designed as a secondary analysis from a previously published clinical trial, and it assessed the tissue perfusion changes over 6 months around multiple gingival recession defects, treated with either with CCMX alone (control) or with CCMX + rhPDGF (test). High frequency Doppler ultrasonography (HFUS) scans were obtained at sites of interest at baseline, 2 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery.

ConspectusA key challenge in modern chemistry research is to mimic life-like functions using simple molecular networks and the integration of such networks into the first functional artificial cell. Central to this endeavor is the development of signaling elements that can regulate the cell function in time and space by producing entities of code with specific information to induce downstream activity. Such artificial signaling motifs can emerge in nonequilibrium systems, exhibiting complex dynamic behavior like bistability, multistability, oscillations, and chaos.

Theoretical modeling and modal analysis of multi-element coupled transducers.

J Acoust Soc Am

January 2025

National Key Laboratory of Underwater Acoustic Technology, Harbin Engineering University, Harbin 150001, China.

Low-frequency transducers are considerably smaller than the wavelength. When multiple low-frequency transducers are closely packed, they couple with the surrounding water and form a transducer-water-transducer coupling structure called multi-element coupled transducers (MCT). This study presents a theoretical model of the MCT based on radiation and mutual radiation theory and analyzes it under multiple resonance frequencies and vibration modes.

Acoustoplasmonic resonators, such as nanobars and crosses, are efficient acousto-optical transducers. The excitation of mechanical modes in these structures strongly depends on the spatial profile of the eigenmodes of the resonator. Using a system of two identical gold elongated bars placed on a silicon dioxide substrate, we examine how breaking mirror symmetries affects the optical and acoustic properties to provide insights in the design of acoustoplasmonic metasurfaces for nonsymmetric acousto-optical transducers.
