An new method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of trenbolone residues in meat, liver and kidney is described. The analytical procedure consists of the following steps: comminution of the meat sample; homogenisation with tetrahydrofurane; liquid-liquid partition first between acetonitril and hexane then between sodium hydroxide solution and petroleum ether/benzene; chromatography on a silica gel column. The detection on the TLC-plate is performed with 366 nm ultra violet light. The quantitative determination is carried out by means of a remission spectral fluorimeter directly on the plate. The detection limit in meat extracts was 5 ppb.

Altrenogest (ALT), a synthetic progestogen, is used in pig farming for estrus synchronization in gilts. Residues of ALT and its metabolites may reach the aquatic environment via the spread of liquid manure and may present a risk for fish and other higher aquatic organisms due to its endocrine disrupting potential. We describe the androgen receptor (AR) agonistic/antagonistic effects of 140 veterinary drugs regulated in Republic of Korea, by setting maximum residue limits. It was conducted using two in vitro test guidelines of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)-the AR-EcoScreen AR transactivation (TA) assay and the 22Rv1/MMTV_GR-KO AR TA assay. These were performed alongside the AR binding affinity assay to confirm whether their AR agonistic/antagonistic effects are based on the binding affinity to AR.

The current study represents a comprehensive investigation of the occurrence and fates of trenbolone acetate (TBA) and metabolites 17α-trenbolone (17α-TBOH), 17β-TBOH, and trendione (TBO); melengesterol acetate (MGA); and the less commonly studied β-andrenergic agonist ractopamine (RAC) in two 8 month cattle feeding trials and simulated rainfall runoff experiments. Cattle were administered TBA, MGA, or RAC, and their residues were measured in fresh feces, pen floor material, and simulated rainfall runoff from pen floor surfaces and manure-amended pasture. Concentrations of RAC ranged from 3600 ng g, dry weight (dw), in pen floor to 58 000 ng g in fresh feces and were, on average, observed at 3-4 orders of magnitude greater than those of TBA and MGA.

Photolysis of trenbolone acetate (TBA) metabolites in the presence of various nitrogen-, sulfur-, or oxygen-containing nucleophiles (, azide, ammonia, or thiosulfate, respectively) results in rapid (half-lives ∼20-60 min), photochemically induced nucleophile incorporation across the parent steroid's trienone moiety. The formation of such nucleophile adducts limits formation of photohydrates, suggesting competition between the nucleophile and water for photochemical addition into the activated steroid structure. Analogous to previously reported photohydration outcomes, LC/MS analyses suggest that such photonucleophilic addition reactions are reversible, with more rapid elimination rates than thermal dehydration of photohydrates, and regenerate parent steroid structures.
