Background: The role of adjuvant chemotherapy in early-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) remains unclear, particularly for small tumors. This study assesses the survival benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy after surgical resection with a novel focus on tumors less than 1 cm.

Materials And Methods: Data from the National Cancer Database (NCDB) was extracted for patients with SCLC (n = 11,962) and LCNEC (n = 6821) who underwent surgical resection between 2004 and 2020.

Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and Long-Term Risk of Heart Failure in Women: National Cohort and Co-Sibling Study.

JACC Heart Fail

January 2025

Center for Primary Health Care Research, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, Malmö, Sweden; University Clinic Primary Care Skåne, Region Skåne, Sweden.

Background: Adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as preterm delivery and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, may be associated with higher future risks of heart failure (HF). However, the comparative effects of different adverse pregnancy outcomes on long-term risk of HF, and their potential causality, are unclear.

Objectives: The authors sought to examine 5 major adverse pregnancy outcomes in relation to long-term risk of HF in a large population-based cohort.

The efficacy of immunotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is significantly hindered by its low immunogenicity and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Non-invasive photodynamic therapy (PDT) is increasingly recognized as a potential immunotherapeutic stimulant in the treatment of TNBC. However, photodynamic immunotherapy is constrained by tumor hypoxia and excessive inflammation suppression during the course of treatment.

The Dynamic Changes of COL11A1 Expression During the Carcinogenesis and Development of Breast Cancer and as a Candidate Diagnostic and Prognostic Marker.

Breast J

January 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Lung Cancer Metastasis and Tumor Microenvironment, Tianjin Lung Cancer Institute, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin 300052, China.

Collagen type XI alpha 1 (COL11A1), a critical member of the collagen superfamily, is essential for tissue structure and integrity. This study aimed to validate previously identified variations in COL11A1 expression during breast cancer carcinogenesis and progression, as well as elucidate their clinical implications. COL11A1 mRNA expression levels were assessed using real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) in 30 pairs of normal breast tissue and primary breast cancer, 30 pairs of primary breast cancer and lymph node metastases, 30 benign tumors, and 107 primary breast cancers.

The pulmonary contusion score: Development of a simple scoring system for blunt lung injury.

Surg Pract Sci

June 2024

Division of Acute Care Surgery, Department of Surgery, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, 1701W. Charleston Blvd, Suite 490, Las Vegas, NV 89102, United States.

Background: Pulmonary contusions (PC) are common after blunt chest trauma and can be identified with computed tomography (CT). Complex scoring systems for grading PC exist, however recent scoring systems rely on computer-generated algorithms that are not readily available at all hospitals. We developed a scoring system for grading PC to predict the need for prolonged mechanical ventilation and initial hospital admission location.
