Bone's resistance to fracture depends on its amount and quality, the latter including its structural and material/compositional properties. Bone material properties are dependent on bone turnover rates, which are significantly elevated immediately following menopause. Previously published data reported that following menopause, the amount of organic matrix synthesized at actively forming surfaces is significantly decreased, while glycosaminoglycan content was also modulated at resorbing surfaces, in the cancellous compartment.

Collagen is an essential constituent of the uterine extracellular matrix that provides biomechanical strength, resilience, structural integrity, and the tensile properties necessary for the normal functioning of the uterus. Cross-linking is a fundamental step in collagen biosynthesis and is critical for its normal biophysical properties. This step occurs enzymatically via lysyl oxidase (LOX) or non-enzymatically with the production of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).

The tunica albuginea (TA) of the penis is an elastic layer that serves a structural role in penile erection. Disorders affecting the TA cause pain, deformity, and erectile dysfunction. There is a substantial clinical need for engineered replacements of TA, but data are scarce on the material properties and biochemical composition of healthy TA.

Nose reconstruction often requires scarce cartilage grafts. Nasal cartilage properties must be determined to serve as design criteria for engineering grafts. Thus, mechanical and biochemical properties were obtained in multiple locations of human nasal septum, upper lateral cartilage (ULC), and lower lateral cartilage (LLC).
