This study addresses the critical issue of irreversible oxidation in hypochlorite (ClO⁻) sensing by a phenothiazine-based compound, which typically leads to the probe's degradation and loss of functionality. We introduce a novel fluorescence probe, (2-(5-(10 H-phenothiazin-10-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-1 H-benzo[d]imidazol-6-yl)(phenyl)methanone (PTH-BP), specifically designed to enhance ClO⁻ detection efficiency. PTH-BP exhibits strong aggregation-induced emission (AIE), emitting deep orange fluorescence at 620 nm with a large Stokes shift of 195 nm, and achieves an impressive detection limit of 1 nM in ACN/PBS buffer solutions.

Semitransparent perovskite solar cells (ST-PSCs) for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) face the challenge of achieving high efficiency due to significant light loss. The SnO2 electron transport layer (ETL), utilized in n-i-p PSCs and prepared via the sol-gel method, is susceptible to aggregation on substrate, resulting in light scattering that diminishes absorption of the perovskite layer. In this study, we propose a strategy that combines atomic layer deposition (ALD) and sol-gel solution to deposit a bilayer SnO2 structure to address these issues.

Zwitterionic polymers have garnered significant attention for their distinctive properties, such as biocompatibility, antifouling capabilities, and resistance to protein adsorption, making them promising candidates for a wide range of applications, including drug delivery, oil production inhibitors, and water purification membranes. This study reports the synthesis and characterization of zwitterionic monomers and polymers through the modification of linear, vinyl, and aromatic heterocyclic functional groups via reaction with 1,3-propanesultone. Four zwitterionic polymers with varying molecular structures-ranging from linear to five and six membered ring systems-were synthesized: poly(sulfobetaine methacrylamide) (pSBMAm), poly(sulfobetaine-1-vinylimidazole) (pSB1VI), poly(sulfobetaine-2-vinylpyridine) (pSB2VP), and poly(sulfobetaine-4-vinylpyridine) (pSB4VP).

Food-grade titanium dioxide (E171) is widely used in food, feed, and pharmaceuticals for its opacifying and coloring properties. This study investigates the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the aggregation behavior of E171 using the TNO Gastrointestinal (GI) model, which simulates the stomach and small intestine. E171 was characterized using multiple techniques, including electron spin resonance spectroscopy, single-particle inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering.

Bottom-up syntheses of carbon nanodots (CND) using solvothermal treatment of citric acid are known to afford nanometer-sized, amorphous polycitric acid-based materials. The addition of suitable co-reactants in the form of in-situ synthesized N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophores facilitates hereby the overall functionalization. Our incentive was to design a CND model that features phenazine (P-CND) - a well-known N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophore - to investigate the influence of the CND matrix on its redox chemistry as well as photochemistry.
