The study was carried out on 166 gastric polyps removed by endoscopic polypectomy. In 116 cases the formations were true (glandular) polyps, in 12 (10.3% of the true polyps) fibrous pseudopolyps. The latter are characterized by outgrowths of collagen and reticulin fibers, contain many small vessels, are infiltrated with fibroblasts, lymphocytes, and eosinophils. Eosinophilic infiltration shows varying intensity and does not correlate with blood eosinophilia. Fibrous pseudopolyps do not belong to eosinophilic granulomas (histiocytosis X), therefore there is no sense in using this term even as a synonym.
