In the accompanying paper we explore the analysis of solute disappearance curves using conventional linear assumptions. In this study we extend the analysis to examine the possibility of using the same model to recover the average kinetic parameters when the liver lobule displays anatomic and metabolic heterogeneity. The results show that the linear model can be used to recover good estimates of the average transfer coefficients, even though the kinetic parameters that govern uptake, efflux, and excretion are nonlinear functions of sinusoidal length. The inhomogeneities that we have examined include a variable surface-to-volume ratio of the sinusoids, saturation kinetics at the canalicular face of the liver cells, and a lobular profile of metabolizing enzyme or excretory carrier units per unit length of sinusoid.

Enteroendocrine cells (EECs) are a rare cell type of the intestinal epithelium. Various subtypes of EECs produce distinct repertoires of monoamines and neuropeptides which modulate intestinal motility and other physiologies. EECs also possess neuron-like properties, suggesting a potential vulnerability to ingested environmental neurotoxicants.

Neurodegeneration in glaucoma patients is clinically identified through longitudinal assessment of structure-function changes, including intraocular pressure, cup-to-disc ratios from fundus images, and optical coherence tomography imaging of the retinal nerve fiber layer. Use of human post-mortem ocular tissue for basic research is rising in the glaucoma field, yet there are challenges in assessing disease stage and severity, since tissue donations with informed consent are often unaccompanied by detailed pre-mortem clinical information. Further, the interpretation of disease severity based solely on anatomical and morphological assessments by histology can be affected by differences in death-to-preservation time and tissue processing.

To evaluate the outcomes and predictive factors for fluid resolution following three loading injections of faricimab for neovascular age-related macular degeneration(AMD). This retrospective study included patients diagnosed with treatment-naïve neovascular AMD who received three monthly injections of faricimab. Changes in best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and central retinal thickness(CRT) following treatment were evaluated.

Purpose: Acanthamoeba species are eucaryotic protozoa found predominantly in soil and water. They cause ulceration and vision loss in the cornea (Acanthamoeba keratitis) and central nervous system (CNS) infection involving the lungs (granulomatous amoebic encephalitis). Antiparasitic drugs currently used in the treatment of infections caused by Acanthamoeba species are not effective at the desired level in some anatomical regions such as the eye and CNS.

Near-infrared-II (NIR-II) imaging has emerged as a powerful technique for high-resolution visualization of deep anatomical features, benefiting from minimized autofluorescence, diminished optical scattering, and absorption of tissue. However, the current synthesis of NIR-II nanoprobes is a time-consuming, labor-intensive process with low yields, highlighting the need for an efficient and rapid synthesis approach instead. Herein, we report DNA-templated silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) with NIR-II emission that can be rapidly synthesized via a simple one-spot process within 2 min.
