Objectives: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) are more common in women, partly due to differences in female sex hormones. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is widely used to alleviate climacteric symptoms. Here, the relationship between MHT and SLE/SSc was investigated in a nested case-control study.

Cognitive impairment is a core feature of neurodevelopmental (schizophrenia) and aging-associated (mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's dementia) neurodegenerative diseases. Limited efficacy of current pharmacological treatments warrants further search for new targets for nootropic interventions. The breakdown of myelin, a phospholipids axonal sheath that protects the conduction of nerve impulse between neurons, was proposed as a neuropathological abnormality that precedes and promotes the deposition of amyloid-β in neuritic plaques.

One-week protein restriction (PR) limits ischemia-reperfusion (IR) damages and improves metabolic fitness. Similarly, longer-term calory restriction results in increased lifespan, partly via reduced insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1. However, the influence of short-term PR on IGF-1 and its impact on IR are unknown.

The potential endocrine-disrupting of fluorinated pesticides and molecular mechanism of EDPs in cell models.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

State Key Lab, Institute of Food Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences/Key Laboratory of Agro-products Quality and Safety Control in Storage and Transport Process/Laboratory of Agro-products Quality Safety Risk Assessment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Beijing 100193, PR China. Electronic address:

Environmental endocrine disruptors constitute a category of exogenous compounds that interfere with the endocrine system's functions in organisms or cells. As a class of particularly representative endocrine-disrupting chemicals, the accumulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances potentially leads to adverse health effects, including hormonal disruptions, developmental issues, and cancer. However, the classification of these disruptors is intricate, and the data on their potential health risks is scattered.

Chronic exposure to liquid crystal monomer EBCN at environmentally relevant concentrations induces testicular dysfunction via the gut-testis axis.

J Hazard Mater

Reproductive Medicine Center, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, China; Reproductive Medicine Center, Zhengzhou University People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, China; Henan Joint International Research Laboratory of Reproductive Bioengineering, Zhengzhou, China. Electronic address:

4-Cyano-4'-ethoxybiphenyl (EBCN) is a representative cyano liquid crystal monomer (LCM). While prior studies have documented the widespread occurrence of LCMs in diverse environmental and biological samples, research on their reproductive effects in vivo remains limited. This study employed 35-day and 70-day exposure models in mice to assess the short-term and long-term effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of EBCN on testicular health.
