The EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM) established a tolerable daily intake (TDI) for fumonisin B (FB ) of 1.0 μg/kg body weight (bw) per day based on increased incidence of megalocytic hepatocytes found in a chronic study with mice. The CONTAM Panel considered the limited data available on toxicity and mode of action and structural similarities of FB and found it appropriate to include FB , FB and FB in a group TDI with FB .

Autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) is a multifactorial, genetic disease. It is the sequelae of the impaired immunoregulation, tolerance and poor recognition of one's own proteins, oligopolysaccharides and polypeptides, due to development of somatic lymphocyte mutations. It is manifested by different clinical and morphological entities, inter-related by etiopathogenetic association, i.

To examine the effect of nongenotoxic chemicals on hepatocarcinogenesis in Long-Evans Cinnamon (LEC) rats, we gave 6-week-old male and female LEC rats (n = 18) weekly subcutaneous injections of D-galactosamine hydrochloride (GalN, 300 mg/kg) in 0.9% NaCl or only 0.9% NaCl for 50 weeks, and killed them in week 62.

Mutagenic DNA base modifications are correlated with lesions in nonneoplastic hepatic tissue of the English sole carcinogenesis model.

Molecular Epidemiology Program, Pacific Northwest Research Foundation, Seattle, Washington 98122, USA.

Hydroxyl radical-induced mutagenic base modifications have been linked to neoplasia in a number of biological systems, including English sole from chemically contaminated urban environments. However, virtually no information exists on the relationship between the mutagenic base modifications and preneoplastic and other lesions found in tumor-free tissues prone to cancer. We studied six hepatic lesions in immature, neoplasm-free English sole exposed to an urban and reference environment and established correlations between the lesion incidence and concentrations of the mutagenic base modifications 8-hydroxyguanine and 8-hydroxyadenine.
