Normal adult men with long and short phenytoin plasma half-lives were given 300-mg oral doses of phenytoin once daily for 15 days. Plasma levels of phenytoin (DPH) and its major metabolite (p-HPPH) were measured during the period of drug administration and for 5 days thereafter. Average steady-state plasma levels of DPH rose to 13.4 micrograms/ml in the long half-life group, compared with 3.6 micrograms/ml in the short half-life group. HPPH levels in the long half-life group were about one half of those observed in the short half-life group. The DPH/HPPH ratios in plasma specimens showed excellent correlation with the plasma half-lives of DPH and average steady-state levels, suggesting that this ratio could provide guidance in the selection of optimum dosage regimens for problem patients.

The presence of a synergistic effect between carrier and insecticide in controlled release formulations is highly desirable to improve efficacy to target pests and reduce insecticide use. Herein, controlled release microparticles of avermectin (AVM) were fabricated using natural chitosan (CTS) as a carrier by a pH adjustment method. The resulted AVM@CTS microparticles displayed high encapsulation efficiency (73.

In this paper, we designed and synthesized a novel based on quinoline modification half-salamo-type Zn(II) complex([Zn(L)(μ-OCH)]·(ClO)), namely ZP. The structure of ZP was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, in which the Zn(II) ions displayed in two different coordination modes, ultimately forming a highly symmetric heptanuclear structure. The Zn(II) complex probe modified by quinoline luminescent group has excellent luminescence properties and selectively recognizes Fe in aqueous solution.

With more than half the global population on social media, there is a critical need to understand how to engage it in a way that improves rather than worsens user well-being. Here, we show that positive empathy is a promising tool. Participants who received brief positive empathy instructions before 10 min of browsing their own Instagram feed showed greater affective well-being (Studies 1-4) and life satisfaction (Study 4) at posttest relative to participants who were instructed to browse as usual.

Background: Alpine skiing requires flexibility, endurance, strength and rotational ability, which may be lost after long fusions to the pelvis for adult spinal deformity (ASD). ASD patients may worry about their ability to return to skiing (RTS) postoperatively. There is currently insufficient data for spine surgeons to adequately address questions about when, or if, their patients might RTS.

Mitigating loss of genetic diversity is a major global biodiversity challenge. To meet recent international commitments to maintain genetic diversity within species, we need to understand relationships between threats, conservation management and genetic diversity change. Here we conduct a global analysis of genetic diversity change via meta-analysis of all available temporal measures of genetic diversity from more than three decades of research.
