Among young men with hereditary tendency to atherosclerosis one frequently finds immunological reactions to serum lipoproteins of very low density, somewhat less frequent reactions to heparin are encountered. Possible mechanisms of actions of antibodies to lipoproteins and heparin are discussed.

Background: Familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) is diagnosed by genetic or non-genetic criteria.
Objective: To assess responses to treatment of apolipoprotein (apo)C-III, triglycerides, and pancreatitis events in patients with FCS-based diagnostic methods.
Methods: APPROACH enrolled 66 patients with FCS randomized to volanesorsen or placebo for 12 months.

Background And Aim: Insulin resistance and other metabolic risk factors are associated with increased cardiovascular diseases in animals fed with high fat diets (HFD). L-arginine is a semi-essential amino acid produced both endogenously and taken in the diet as supplements. It has been documented to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has been considered a plausible candidate for the management of metabolic disorders.

This study evaluates a novel therapy combining sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and heparin (heparan sulfate derivative). We hypothesized that heparin/S1P would repair mechanically damaged EC GCX in disturbed flow (DF) regions and restore anti-atherosclerotic mechanotransduction function, addressing cardiovascular disease.

Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) often accompanies diabetes and is considered a risk factor for diabetic vascular complications. However, inducing diabetic HTG typically requires high-fat diets in certain animal models. Leveraging our newly developed LDL receptor knockout hamster model, which exhibits features akin to human lipid metabolism, we sought to determine whether these animals would develop HTG without dietary manipulations in diabetes.

Antithrombin and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) provide different anticoagulant mechanisms. Having established a potent anticoagulant role of cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vessel-on-a-chip microfluidic models, we now investigated how these cells modulated thrombin generation under stasis through antithrombin and TFPI pathways. We observed that endothelial monolayers in 96 well-plates strongly delayed and suppressed the thrombin generation process induced by tissue factor, regardless of the presence of whole blood, platelet-rich plasma or platelet-free plasma.
