Article Synopsis
  • Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) disrupts the conversion of lactate to pyruvate in the brain, leading to abnormal adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels, primarily due to the role of lactate dehydrogenase 1 (LDH1).
  • A study collected cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 17 patients, examining various biochemical markers, and found that patients with CM had increased intracranial pressure and white cell counts, along with altered levels of LDH1, pyruvate, and ATP compared to non-infectious disease patients.
  • The findings indicate that reduced LDH1 levels contribute to increased lactate and decreased pyruvate and ATP, adversely impacting

Background: Post-translational modification (PTM) is one of the major regulatory mechanism for protein activities. To understand the function of PTMs, mutants that prevent or mimic the modification are frequently utilized. The endogenous proteins are usually depleted while the point mutations are expressed.

Effect of intestinal lymphatic circulation blockage in two-hit rats.

World J Gastroenterol

September 2006

Institute of Cell Biology, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310003, Zhejiang Province, China.

Aim: To study the effect of blocking intestinal lymphatic circulation in two-hit rats and explore the significance of intestinal lymphatic circulation in two-hit.

Methods: Wistar rats were divided equally into three groups: mesenteric lymph duct ligation group, non-ligation group and sham group. Mesenteric lymph was diverted by ligation of mesenteric lymph duct, and the two-hit model was established by hemorrhage and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) methods.
