Hearing Pronouns Primes Speakers to Use Pronouns.

Open Mind (Camb)

January 2025

Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC, USA.

Speaking requires frequent decisions about how to refer, for example whether to use a pronoun (she) or a name (Ana). It is well known that this choice is guided by the discourse context, but little is known about the representations that are activated. We use priming to test whether this choice can be facilitated through recent exposure, and if so, what representations are activated.

Objectives: Despite evidence supporting sleep's role in the development and maintenance of depression, mechanisms underlying this association in young people are less established. Negative interpretation bias (the tendency to interpret ambiguous situations negatively) and repetitive negative thinking (RNT) are important candidate mechanisms. Whilst negative interpretation bias is implicated in depression development, it is a transdiagnostic process and may result from insomnia.

Should you hold onto the treadmill handrails or not? Cortical evidence at different walking speeds.

J Neuroeng Rehabil

January 2025

Department of Neuroscience, Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Genetics, Maternal and Child Health, University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy.

Background: Treadmill-based gait training is part of rehabilitation programs focused on walking abilities. The use of handrails embedded in treadmill systems is debated, and current literature only explores the issue from a behavioral perspective.

Methods: We examined the cortical correlates of treadmill walking in healthy participants using functional near-infrared spectroscopy.

Predicting drug combination side effects based on a metapath-based heterogeneous graph neural network.

BMC Bioinformatics

January 2025

Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100190, China.

In recent years, combined drug screening has played a very important role in modern drug discovery. Generally, synergistic drug combinations are crucial in treatment for many diseases. However, the toxic side effects of drug combinations are probably increased with the increase of drugs numbers, so the accurate prediction of toxic side effects of drug combinations is equally important.

Object recognition is fundamental to how we interact with and interpret the world around us. The human amygdala and hippocampus play a key role in object recognition, contributing to both the encoding and retrieval of visual information. Here, we recorded single-neuron activity from the human amygdala and hippocampus when neurosurgical epilepsy patients performed a one-back task using naturalistic object stimuli.
