Case report: Side effects of etomidate in propylene glycol in five Göttingen Minipigs.

Front Vet Sci

July 2024

Faculty of Medicine, Experimental Surgery Facility (ESF), Experimental Animal Center (EAC), University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.

Etomidate, an agonist of the GABA A receptors, is available for clinical use either in combination with 35% propylene glycol or in a lipid emulsion. Its recognized ability to minimally impact the cardiovascular system made etomidate a suitable option for cardiac-compromised patients. Myoclonus and pain at the injection site are recognized side effects of etomidate in propylene glycol, affecting both human and veterinary species.

Indigofera cryptantha-induced pigmenturia in cattle in South Africa.

Toxicon

May 2024

Biodiscovery Centre, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa; School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Two field cases of reddish-black pigmenturia occurred where cattle grazed on an established Cenchrus ciliaris (blue buffalo grass) pasture in South Africa. The pasture was noticeably invaded by Indigofera cryptantha, which was heavily grazed. Apart from the discolored urine, no other clinical abnormalities were detected.

AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy coupled with dose-reduced rt-PA for massive inferior vena cava filter-related thrombosis: A single-center retrospective study.

Asian J Surg

January 2024

Department of Interventional and Vascular Radiology, Nanjing First Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210006, PR China. Electronic address:

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy (ART) coupled with dose-reduced rt-PA, compared to catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) alone, for the treatment of massive inferior vena cava filter (IVCF)-related thrombosis.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 40 patients who received either ART or CDT alone as the first-line endovascular therapy (ET) between January, 2016 and September, 2022. The data on demographics, clinical characteristics, technical success, clinical success, complications, and early follow-up were reviewed.

Objectives: Acute hemolytic transfusion reaction (AHTR) due to ABO-incompatible erythrocyte concentrate (EC) is one of the most catastrophic complications of transfusion. Since the hemolysis is intravascular; hemoglobinemia and hemoglobinuria result in disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), acute renal failure, shock, and sometimes death.

Background: Treatment of AHTR is mostly supportive measures.

Objective: To investigate the safety and effectiveness of catheter-based therapy (CBT) using AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy (ART) device or large lumen catheter (LLC) in the oncological patients with inferior vena cava thrombosis (IVCT).

Methods: This was a retrospective study including eligible patients with IVCT treated with CBT coupled with dose-reduced thrombolysis as the first-line treatment from February 1, 2015 to January 1, 2022. The baseline demographics, comorbidities, clinical characteristics, treatment details, course data were all reviewed.
