C1 chemistry has a central role in the efficient utilization of single-carbon molecules, contributing significantly to sustainability, innovation and economic growth across various sectors. In this study, we present an efficient and rapid method for synthesizing a variety of heteroannulated pyrimidones using cyanoacetamide-based multicomponent reaction (MCR) chemistry. By utilizing specific MCR-based scaffolds as precursors and employing the abundant and inexpensive formamide as a C1 feedstock under neat conditions, we were able to efficiently access substituted thieno-, quinolino- and indolopyrimidones without the need of column chromatography.

Gel immersion in endoscopy: Exploring potential applications.

World J Gastroenterol

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Asahikawa Medical University, Asahikawa 078-8510, Hokkaido, Japan.

The challenge of effectively eliminating air during gastrointestinal endoscopy using ultrasound techniques is apparent. This difficulty arises from the intricacies of removing concealed air within the folds of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in artifacts and compromised visualization. In addition, the overlap of folds with lesions can obscure their depth and size, presenting challenges for an accurate assessment.

Prediction of posthepatectomy liver failure in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma through ultrasound elastography.

World J Gastroenterol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital, Hangzhou Medical College), Hangzhou 310014, Zhejiang Province, China.

In this article, we comment on the article by Cheng published in recently. Posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) remains a leading cause of hepatectomy-related mortality and can be evaluated according to liver reserve function. Liver stiffness (LS) measured by ultrasonic elastography and spleen area demonstrate a strong correlation with hepatic proliferation, fibrosis, and portal vein congestion, thus indirectly reflecting liver reserve function.

Oral and maxillofacial diagnostic imaging is of paramount importance in dental clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up procedures. Periapical radiographic examination and numerous panoramic systems are used in routine clinical dental practice. Cone beam CT is widely used and currently the method of choice in oral and maxillofacial implantology, endodontics, maxillofacial surgery, periodontics, degenerative temporomandibular joint disease, orthodontics, airway studies, sleep disorders, and forensic dentistry.

The left atrium (LA) is pivotal in cardiac hemodynamics, serving as a dynamic indicator of left ventricular (LV) compliance and diastolic function. The LA undergoes structural and functional adaptations in response to hemodynamic stress, infiltrative processes, myocardial injury, and arrhythmic triggers. Remodeling of the LA in response to these stressors directly impacts pulmonary circulation, eventually leading to pulmonary capillary involvement, pulmonary artery hypertension, and eventually right ventricular failure.
