Ultrastructure of the erythroblastic cells was studied under chronic phenol intoxication. Certain changes in the cells are revealed at early stages of their development: an increase in size of the Golgi complex bodies in the proerythroblasts, hyperosmotic mitochondria with vacuolization and breaking of cell membrane in the basophilic erythroblasts. The latter shows the reduction of oxidative phosphorylation.
