Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) has evolved as an emergent co-intervention for sepsis and septic shock patients. Multiple studies discussed the pathophysiological value of vitamin C to reserve endothelial functionality and improve microcirculatory flow in these patients. Nevertheless, most randomized clinical trials failed to show the clinical impact of adding vitamin C to sepsis and septic shock.

To resolve the critical donor shortage worldwide, enlarging the potential donor pool to include expanded criteria donors is necessary. Despite numerous attempts to establish new preservation solutions, no dramatic innovation has occurred since University of Wisconsin (UW) solution displaced Euro Collins' solution; UW solution remains the global gold standard. We previously developed a heavy water (DO)-containing organ storage solution, Dsol, which is effective for livers subjected to extended cold storage (CS), and reported its effectiveness.

Background: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a life-threatening disorder that progresses from self-limiting acute liver injury (ALI). Microcirculatory disturbance characterized by sinusoidal hypercoagulation and subsequent massive hypoxic hepatocyte damage have been proposed to be the mechanism by which ALI deteriorates to ALF; however, the precise molecular pathway of the sinusoidal hypercoagulation remains unknown. Here, we analyzed ALI patients and mice models to uncover the pathogenesis of ALI with microcirculatory disturbance.
