Activity of the cat splenius muscle was modulated by sinusoidal rotation of the head around the C1-C2 joint in decerebrate cats with labyrinth intact or with all semicircular canals plugged, or, in one intact and alert cat, by rotation of the body with the head fixed in space. EMG modulation, recorded from the areas of splenius innervated by the C1-C4 nerves, was due to the cervicocollic reflex. Modulation was not uniform, but decreased with progressively more caudal recording locations; with stimuli of small amplitude it was often possible to obtain modulation of the rostral part of the muscle only. The results demonstrate localization of proprioceptive reflexes, including the stretch reflex, within the splenius muscle.

Currently, Unilateral biportal endoscopy is widely used in the surgical treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. To investigate the feasibility of bilateral synchronous UBE to unilateral laminotomy and bilateral decompression(BS-UBE-ULBD) for treating two-level lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Sixty-four patients with two-level lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) treated with BS-UBE-ULBD from October 2022 to January 2024 were retrospectively analyzed.

The patient was a male in his 60s who underwent a retroperitoneoscopic right nephrectomy for a diagnosis of right renal cell carcinoma (cT3aN0M0). During surgery, the patient was positioned in the left lateral recumbent, jackknife position. A blood test of the day after surgery showed an abnormally high CK level of 23,038 U/L.

The role of paraspinal muscle degeneration in cervical spondylosis.

Eur Spine J

January 2025

Department of Tuina and Spinal Orthopaedic in Chinese Medicine, Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, The Fourth Clinical Medical College of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Shenzhen, Guangdong, 518033, China.

Purpose: To explore the relationship between paraspinal muscle degeneration and cervical spondylosis through cervical spine MRI and lateral X-ray.

Methods: A retrospective study included 83 cervical spondylosis patients as the experimental group, consisting of 28 axial joint pain (Group A), 29 cervical radiculopathy (Group B), and 26 myelopathy (Group C), as well as 29 healthy individuals as the control group (Group D). The cross-sectional area (CSA) of paraspinal muscles at the C3-4, C4-5, and C5-6 segments was measured, including the deep extensor area (DEA), deep flexor area (DFA), and superficial extensor area (SEA).

Objectives: Jitter analysis with concentric needle electrode of the thoracic 9 (T9) paraspinal muscle (PM), where the needle EMG examination at rest is difficult, was performed in both amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and the controls.

Methods: For the T9 PM, both upper limit for mean and individual mean consecutive difference (MCD) values and spike numbers were calculated according to jitter values of pairs from controls. In addition to the descriptive statistics, differences between two groups and T9 PM needle EMG and jitter analysis findings of patients were compared (p = 0.
