The objective of this observational study was to evaluate the association between increased physical activity at first artificial insemination (AI) and subsequent pregnancy per AI (P/AI) in lactating Holstein cows following spontaneous estrus or a timed AI (TAI) protocol. We also wanted to identify factors associated with the intensity of activity increase (PA) captured by automated activity monitors (AAM) and fertility. Two experiments were conducted, in which cows either were inseminated based on the alert of the AAM system (AAM cows) or received TAI following a 7-d Ovsynch protocol (TAI cows) if not inseminated within a farm-specific period after calving.

The objective was to assess the effect of housing conditions during the summer months on the success rates of cervical artificial insemination (AI) with cooled semen, in intensively reared dairy ewes in Greece. The study involved 2083 Lacaune ewes from 23 flocks that were serviced during May to September. An estrous synchronization protocol with the insertion of progestogen sponges for 14 days and eCG administration at sponge removal, was used.

Development of new methods for early diagnosis of pregnancy can be important to increase the reproductive efficiency and profitability of dairy herds. The bovine conceptus secretes IFN-τ that stimulates the transcription of several genes in circulating immune cells and extrauterine tissues. The aims of this study were to evaluate the mRNA abundance for pregnancy predictability of a classic gene stimulated by IFN-τ () and a novel potential pregnancy marker () in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), total blood leukocytes (TBL) or milk leukocytes (TML), and cervical cells (CC) on d 20 after timed artificial insemination (TAI) in dairy cattle.

The objective of this observational study was to identify factors associated with estrous duration (DU) and intensity measured as the peak of activity (PA) change and subsequent fertility in lactating Holstein cows using a neck-mounted automated activity monitor (Heatime Pro, SCR Engineers Ltd., Netanya, Israel). Ambient temperature and relative humidity were recorded hourly to calculate the temperature-humidity index (THI).
