Twenty-eight patients with defective neutrophil mobility were classified, largely on results of parent values, into primary (17)--mainly Shwachman's syndrome--and probable secondary (11). They presented with frequent infections and/or allergy and these symptoms were essentially similar in both groups. Neutropenia was virtually confined. to the patients with Shwachman's syndrome. Diagnoses associated with secondary neutrophil mobility defects included hydrocephalus with shunt, cystic fibrosis, and immunoglobulin deficiency. The neutrophil mobility of nearly nearly all the patients studied increased when levamisole was added in vitro, but there was no clear evidence of clinical benefit when patients were given the drug.

The liver, a major organ involved in substance metabolism, is highly susceptible to toxicity induced by chemicals and their metabolites. Although damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) have been implicated in the development of sterile inflammation following cell injury, their involvement in chemically induced hepatocellular injury remains underexplored. This study aimed to determine the role of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), a DAMP, in a rat model of liver injury treated with thioacetamide, a hepatotoxicant.

Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a complex auto-inflammatory disease affecting the brain and spinal cord, which results in axonal de-myelination and symptoms including fatigue, pain, and difficulties with vision and mobility. The involvement of the immune system in the pathology of MS is well established, particularly the adaptive T cell response, and there has been a particular focus on the IL-17-producing subset of Th17 cells and their role in driving disease. However, the importance of innate immune cells has not been so well characterised.

Background: Sleep disturbances are common and distressing among patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), often resulting in a cycle of worsening skin conditions. Among various factors affecting sleep in AD, cervical spine movement has been suggested to influence sleep quality; however, these studies mostly relied on subjective measures. Owing to the lack of objective and quantitative analyses of cervical spine movement, its association with sleep disturbances remains poorly understood.

Background: Inflammatory stress at the maternal-fetal interface plays an important role in the occurrence and development of preeclampsia(PE) caused by different etiologies. Many pathological neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) at the maternal-fetal interface are believed to be among the main pathogenic factors leading to preeclampsia and the worsening of its symptoms. However, the underlying mechanism is largely unclear.

Objective: To identify key risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infections (PPIs) in lung cancer (LC), patients undergoing radical surgery and construct a multiparametric nomogram model to improve PPI risk prediction accuracy, guiding individualized interventions.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on LC patients treated at Yidu Central Hospital of Weifang from March 2020 to May 2023. Among the 1,084 LC cases reviewed, patients were divided into an infected group (n = 131) and an uninfected group (n = 953) based on infection status.
