Nanoscale Manipulation of Single-Molecule Conformational Transition through Vibrational Excitation.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California 92093-0309, United States.

Controlling molecular actions on demand is a critical step toward developing single-molecule functional devices. Such control can be achieved by manipulating the interactions between individual molecules and their nanoscale environment. In this study, we demonstrate the conformational transition of a single pyrrolidine molecule adsorbed on a Cu(100) surface, driven by vibrational excitation through tunneling electrons using scanning tunneling microscopy.

A brain-computer interface system for lower-limb exoskeletons based on motor imagery and stacked ensemble approach.

Rev Sci Instrum

January 2025

Shenyang Bluewisdom Technology Co., Ltd., Shenyang, Liaoning Province 110623, China.

Existing lower limb exoskeletons (LLEs) have demonstrated a lack of sufficient patient involvement during rehabilitation training. To address this issue and better incorporate the patient's motion intentions, this paper proposes an online brain-computer interface (BCI) system for LLE based motor imagery and stacked ensemble. The establishment of this online BCI system enables a comprehensive closed-loop control process, which includes the collection and decoding of brain signals, robotic control, and real-time feedback mechanisms.

Microfluidics Based Particle and Droplet Generation for Gene and Drug Delivery Approaches.

J Biomed Mater Res B Appl Biomater

February 2025

Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ege University, Izmir, Turkey.

Microfluidics-based droplets have emerged as a powerful technology for biomedical research, offering precise control over droplet size and structure, optimal mixing of solutions, and prevention of cross-contamination. It is a major branch of microfluidic technology with applications in diagnostic testing, imaging, separation, and gene amplification. This review discusses the different aspects of microfluidic devices, droplet generation techniques, droplet types, and the production of micro/nano particles, along with their advantages and limitations.

The physical picture for photocurrent injection and coherent control in intrinsic graphene under two-color laser excitation remains obscure. Previously, photocurrent injection of intrinsic graphene was attributed to the quantum interference between two electronic transition pathways of single-photon and two-photon absorptions as well as layer-to-layer coupling. Here, we show that quantum interference between stimulated electronic Raman scattering and single-photon absorption plays a very important role in contributing to the total photocurrent, while interlayer coupling does not sufficiently affect the photocurrent injection, which is in contrast to the previous interpretation of the experimental results on photocurrent injection and coherent control.

Molecular Symphony of Mitophagy: Ubiquitin-Specific Protease-30 as a Maestro for Precision Management of Neurodegenerative Diseases.

CNS Neurosci Ther

January 2025

Drug Design & Development Section, Translational Gerontology Branch, Intramural Research Program, National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, Baltimore, USA.

Introduction: Mitochondrial dysfunction stands as a pivotal feature in neurodegenerative disorders, spurring the quest for targeted therapeutic interventions. This review examines Ubiquitin-Specific Protease 30 (USP30) as a master regulator of mitophagy with therapeutic promise in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). USP30's orchestration of mitophagy pathways, encompassing PINK1-dependent and PINK1-independent mechanisms, forms the crux of this exploration.
