Aim: To examine psychological and emotional disorders in patients with infectious diseases, to specify indications for their pharmacological correction.
Material And Methods: Clinicopsychological, clinicofunctional and laboratory tests were made to examine 30 patients with infectious mononucleosis (19 females and 11 males) and 30 patients with serous meningitis (16 females and 14 males) aged 16-35 admitted to hospital on the disease day 2-14.
Results: Shmishek's questionnaire revealed various types of personality accentuations with dominating hyperthymic (30%) and cyclothymic (20%).

Neuropsychological theories proposed a critical role of the interaction between the medial temporal lobe and neocortex in the formation of long-term memory for facts and events, which has often been tested by learning of a series of paired words or figures in humans. We identify neural mechanisms of this long-term memory formation process by single-unit recording and molecular biological methods in an animal model of visual pair-association task in monkeys. In our previous studies, we found a group of neurons that manifested selective responses to both of the paired associates (pair-coding neuron) in the anterior inferior temporal (IT) cortex.

Using a clinico-psychological approach, personality changes have been studied in 40 patients with attack-like schizophrenia presenting asthenic (n = 22) or sthenic (n = 18) types of remissions. The common regularities have been identified, namely personality alterations of a superficial level with the preservation of "the nucleus of personality". In an asthenic type of remission the defect is total and all the main components of the personality are involved.
