One of the best and most advanced methods for disposal of urban, hospital, industrial, and other hazardous waste is to convert waste into combustible gases in reactors based on plasma arc technology. Also used for renewable energy generation, this technology involves thermal treatment without a combustion process; therefore, the waste is completely decomposed into simple molecules in a near vacuum environment almost devoid of Oxygen at elevated temperatures. The present research uses a thermal transferred arc plasma reactor to conduct a feasibility study on the pyrolysis of three types of wastes: Antar, Orthotoluenediamine (OTD), and Tar.

Advances on jarosite residue detoxification and reutilization: a review.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Treatment and Resource Recycle (SWUST), Ministry of Education, Southwest University of Science and Technology, 59 Qinglong Road, Mianyang, 621010, China.

Jarosite residues are typical hazardous waste byproducts generated during the iron removal process in hydrometallurgical solutions. The jarosite process is widely used for iron removal in zinc hydrometallurgy; jarosite disposal has become a significant barrier to sustainable development in the industry. During this process, jarosite residues entrain and co-precipitate with heavy metals, which are hazardous but valuable.

A Deep Insight into the Microscopic Dynamics of the Electrode-Electrolyte Interface under Extreme Operating Conditions.

ACS Nano

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Processing and Recycling of Non-ferrous Metal, Lanzhou University of Technology, Lanzhou 730050, P R China.

Understanding the interfacial dynamics during operation is critical for electrochemistry to make great advancements. However, breakthroughs on this topic under extreme conditions are very scarce. Here, as an example, we employ operando Raman spectroscopy to decode the interfacial dynamics of titanium electrolysis using a tailored instrument.

An activity concentration-based proposal for radon management in workplaces involving NORM in Canada.

Radiat Environ Biophys

December 2024

Radiation Protection Bureau, Health Canada, 775 Brookfield Road, Ottawa, ON, K1A 1C1, Canada.

The Canadian Guidelines for the Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) have been developed to manage radiation doses received in workplaces involving NORM, such as mineral extraction and processing, oil and gas production, metal recycling or water treatment facilities. This management strategy works well for most naturally occurring radioactive materials in workplaces, with the exception of radon. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas generated by the decay of uranium-bearing minerals in rocks and soils.
