Respiratory diseases are major health concerns worldwide. Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are the third leading cause of death worldwide and some of the most common are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, occupational lung diseases, and pulmonary hypertension. Despite having different etiology and characteristics, these diseases share several features, such as a persistent inflammatory state, chronic oxidative stress, impaired mucociliary clearance, and increased alveolar surface tension.

Purpose Of Review: The purpose of the review is to summarize the current literature and evaluate how different environmental exposures may contribute to the development and course of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). The review aims to explore the relationship between host factors and environmental exposures in the pathogenesis of CRS.
Recent Findings: Recent studies have helped establish the role of air pollutants, tobacco smoke, occupational exposures, and microplastics in the pathogenesis of CRS.

Risk factors for asthma include genetic, host, and environmental factors such as allergens, smoking, and exposure to chemicals. Heavy metals from air pollution or contaminated water and food can also trigger asthma. This study aimed to identify the biological exposure levels of blood lead, mercury, and cadmium, and determine the association of asthma with single and multiple exposures to these heavy metals using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) conducted between 2008 and 2013.
