Objective: Although bisphenol Aglycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) are widely used in the dental composite, its raw materials include the petroleum-based product bisphenol A (BPA) with high estrogenic activity (EA). In this study, two new BPA-free dimethacrylate monomers from bio-based material creosol were synthesized and evaluated.

Methods: The renewable bisphenol monomer 5, 5'-methylenedicreosol (BCF) was prepared from bio-based material creosol.

How interpersonal power affects empathic accuracy: differential roles of mentalizing vs. mirroring?

Department of Work and Organizational Psychology, University of Neuchâtel Neuchâtel, Switzerland ; Swiss Center for Affective Sciences, University of Geneva Geneva, Switzerland.

Empathic accuracy (EA)-the correct assessment of the affective states and thoughts of a social partner-affects social behavior and the outcome of interpersonal interactions. Growing evidence has shown that interpersonal power of a perceiver affects EA when assessing a target. Objectives: Serologic analyses for anti-EBV antibodies used alone usually have low sensitivity for the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We assumed that a combined determination of antibodies directed at EBV proteins expressed in both lytic and latent cycles could increase the sensitivity.

Materials And Methods: Sixty healthy controls and 100 NPC patients treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy were recruited for the study.

Erythrocyte aggregation as an early biomarker in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis.

Dis Markers

February 2008

Department of Neurology, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated to Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease.

Design: We have evaluated the degree of erythrocyte aggregation (EA) as a microinflammatory biomarker in a cohort of hospital-based, neurologically asymptomatic outpatients.

Methods: The degree of EA and carotid artery stenosis was evaluated in 510 individuals by using a simple slide test and image analysis.
