Electronic address:

The tumor virus A receptor (TVA), a member of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family, serves as an entry receptor for Avian Leukosis Virus (ALV) subgroups A and K, as well as a receptor for vitamin B bound to transcobalamin. Naturally occurring genetic variants in the TVA gene determine susceptibility or resistance to ALV-A and -K, but the effects of these mutated TVA on vitamin B uptake have not been investigated systemically. We found four TVA variants comprising the wild type (TVA), a single nucleotide polymorphism variant (TVA), and two partial deletions in the splicing branch point region (TVA).

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Centre for Precision Health, Edith Cowan University, Joondalup, Western Australia, Australia.

Background: Whilst numerous studies have explored the relationship between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and diabetes, there remains significant conflicting evidence as to their relationship. Some studies suggest an increased likelihood of developing AD in individuals with diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes (T2D) and that both diseases share pathological features. In contrast, other studies indicate that T2D is more aligned with vascular cognitive impairment and dementia and associated cerebrovascular/white matter pathology.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

University of Missouri - St. Louis, Saint Louis, MO, USA.

Background: Haplotypes are patterns of nucleotides in close proximity along a chromosome that are passed together across time and space. These patterns dictate the specific properties of proteins produced and the regulation of this production. General haplotype inference methods phase all provided genotypes within the region of interest into two haplotypes without regard for the ages or evolutionary impact of each mutation, thus force the inclusion of more recent and/or neutral mutations.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

College of Public Health, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA.

Background: We recently reported genetic associations with dementia-related proteinopathies. Using multidimensional generalized partial credit modeling, we constructed three continuous latent variables, corresponding to TDP-43, Aβ/Tau, and a-synuclein related neuropathology endophenotype scores.

Method: Participant data were drawn from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) neuropathology (NP) data (from the September 2023 data freeze) linked to Alzheimer's Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC) genotype data.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Centre for Precision Health, Edith Cowan University, Joondalup, Western Australia, Australia.

Background: Observational studies have suggested a co-occurring relationship between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and asthma. However, the aetiology and biological mechanisms underlying AD and its potential association with asthma, an autoimmune condition, remain unclear.

Method: We examine the genetic relationship between AD and asthma by analysing large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data from international research consortia and groups.
