The dura, arachnoid and pia mater, as the constituent layers of the meninges, along with cerebrospinal fluid in the subarachnoid space and ventricles, are essential protectors of the brain and spinal cord. Complemented by immune cells, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves, these connective tissue layers have held many secrets that have only recently begun to be revealed. Each meningeal layer is now known to have molecularly distinct types of fibroblasts.

Centenarians are perceived as pioneers of longevity, possessing the secrets to surpassing age 100. It remains unclear whether they achieve this by surviving, delaying, or avoiding diseases to a greater extent than their shorter-lived peers. This register-based study encompassed all individuals aged 60 and older, born between 1912 and 1922 in Stockholm County, Sweden (N = 170,787).

Discoveries in the field of genomics have revealed that non-coding genomic regions are not merely "junk DNA", but rather comprise critical elements involved in gene expression. These gene regulatory elements (GREs) include enhancers, insulators, silencers, and gene promoters. Notably, new evidence shows how mutations within these regions substantially influence gene expression programs, especially in the context of cancer.

The Light-Dependent Protochlorophyllide Oxidoreductase (LPOR) catalyzes a crucial step in chlorophyll biosynthesis: the rare biological photocatalytic reduction of the double C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond in the precursor, protochlorophyllide (Pchlide). Despite its fundamental significance, limited structural insights into the active complex have hindered understanding of its reaction mechanism. Recently, a high-resolution cryo-EM structure of LPOR in its active conformation challenged our view of pigment binding, residue interactions, and the catalytic process.
