Tissue microenvironments are extremely complex and heterogeneous. It is challenging to study metabolic interaction between the different cell types in a tissue with the techniques that are currently available. Here we describe a multimodal imaging pipeline that allows cell type identification and nanoscale tracing of stable isotope-labeled compounds.

The Sr/Sr isotope ratio has been widely used as an indicator of provenance and migration of aquatic animals, and has applications in other areas such as in environmental and forensic studies. However, the modeling of the spatial distribution in the Amazon basin is still incipient, preventing large-scale applications. In this study, we present a baseline of the Sr/Sr isotope ratio in surface waters of the Amazon basin to infer the provenance and migration patterns of fish.

Measuring low light absorption with combined uncertainty <1 per mil (‰) is crucial for many applications. Popular cavity ring-down spectroscopy can provide ultrahigh precision, below 0.01‰, but its accuracy is often worse than 5‰ due to inaccuracies in light intensity measurements.

Metal-catalyzed hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) has become a valuable method for incorporating deuterium and tritium into organic molecules, with applications in a wide range of scientific fields. This study explores the role of transition metal cooperativity in enhancing catalytic hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange using early-late heterobimetallic polyhydride (ELHB) complexes. A series of four ELHB complexes, of general formula [M(CHBu)(H)M'Cp*], combining early transition metals (M = Hf, Ta) with late metals (M' = Ir, Os), were synthesized and evaluated for their catalytic activity in HIE of (hetero)arenes.
