Adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are increasingly overweight or obese, in part due to intensive insulin therapy. Newer non-insulin medications targeting both hyperglycemia and weight loss are approved for people with type 2 diabetes. These drugs also reduce cardiovascular disease, the major cause of mortality in people with diabetes.

The global prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is estimated at 32.4%, reflecting its growing clinical significance. MASLD, which includes MASLD and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) has been linked to increased metabolic, cardiovascular, and malignant morbidity.

Semaglutide (Smg), a GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA), shows renal protective effects in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, the exact underlying mechanism remains elusive. This study employs transcriptome sequencing and identifies β-Klotho (KLB) as the critical target responsible for the role of Smg in kidney protection.

Background & Aims: The ingestion of macronutrients triggers the release of several incretin peptides from the gastrointestinal system, which have both insulinotropic and satiety-inducing properties. The effect of the meal's macronutrient content on the secretion of these peptides has not been adequately studied, particularly concerning the secretion of the newly characterized proglucagon-derived peptides (PGDPs). We aimed to examine the effect of a meal's macronutrient content, specifically its protein versus carbohydrate content, on postprandial PGDPs responses in healthy men.

The autonomic nervous system orchestrates the functions of the brain and body through the sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways. However, our understanding of the autonomic system, especially the sympathetic system, at the cellular and molecular levels is severely limited. Here we show topological representations of individual visceral organs in the major abdominal sympathetic ganglion complex.
