Report on the results of cultivating bronchial secretion for anaerobic bacteria. It was collected from 1005 not selected patients with various lung diseases by using a special canula allowing to obtain the specimen under sterile conditions. In 228 patients (22.7%) anaerobic germs could be identified predominantly potentially pathogenic being: Fusobacterium nucleare (91), Veillonella (36), Pepto-streptococcus (23). Above all, they could be found in patients with bronchial carcinoma, bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary abscess. Most of them were sensible to penicillin, chloramphenicol, and tetracycline.

Dynamics and Insights into the Unique Ecological Guild of Fungi in Bacteria-Bioaugmented Anaerobic Digesters.

J Fungi (Basel)

January 2025

Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology Research Group, Institute for Soil, Climate and Water, Agricultural Research Council, Arcadia, Pretoria 0083, South Africa.

Anaerobic digesters host a variety of microorganisms, and they work together to produce biogas. While bacterial and archaeal communities have been well explored using molecular techniques, fungal community structures remain relatively understudied. The present study aims to investigate the dynamics and potential ecological functions of the predominant fungi in bacteria-bioaugmented anaerobic digesters.

Purpose: This study aimed to utilize genetically engineered for the production of ergothioneine (EGT). Given the value of EGT and the application of in enzyme preparation production, we cloned the key enzymes (EanA and EanB) from . Through gene alignment, new ergothioneine synthase genes (EanAN and EanBN) were identified and then expressed in to construct strains.

A new insight on simultaneous water purification and greenhouse gas reduction by constructing sulfur-siderite driven autotrophic denitrification pathways in constructed wetlands.

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Shandong Normal University, Jinan 250014, Shandong, China; Shandong Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shandong University, Qingdao 266237, Shandong, China. Electronic address:

Sulfur-siderite driven autotrophic denitrification (SSAD) has received increasing attention for nutrient removal in constructed wetlands (CWs). Nevertheless, its effectiveness in simultaneous water purification and greenhouse gases (GHGs) reduction remains obscure. In this study, three vertical flow constructed wetlands (VFCWs), filled with quartz sand (CCW), sulfur (S-CW), and sulfur-siderite mixed substrates (SS-CW), were constructed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of SSAD on water purification enhancement and GHGs reduction.

Dietary exposure to the plasticiser bisphenol A (BPA), an obesogenic and endocrine disruptor from plastic and epoxy resin industries, remains prevalent despite regulatory restriction and food safety efforts. BPA can be accumulated in humans and animals, potentially exerting differential health effects based on individual metabolic capacity. This pilot study examines the impact of direct ex vivo BPA exposure on the gut microbiota of obese and normal-weight children, using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and anaerobic culturing combined methods.

Lemierre's syndrome is a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of head and neck infections, such as bacterial pharyngitis or tonsillitis. It is characterized by the extension of infection into the lateral pharyngeal spaces, leading to subsequent septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein(s). Although relatively uncommon since the advent of appropriate antibiotic therapy, the incidence of Lemierre's syndrome has increased in the past 15 years, especially among young, healthy adults.
