The effectiveness of fenclofenac in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis was compared in a crossover double-blind study of 30 patients with that of indometacin over a period of two weeks. The therapeutic effectiveness of fenclofenac, at a daily dose of 900 mg, was comparable to that of indometacin, at a daily dose of 100 mg. Side effects were less common with fenclofenac than indometacin, especially with respect to gastro-intestinal ones. On questioning more patients preferred fenclofenac, and its use is therefore recommended for patients with actual or potential gastro-intestinal problems.
