Lynch syndrome is the most common hereditary cancer predisposition, accounting for 1-5% of colorectal cancer cases, and is driven by germline mutations in DNA mismatch repair genes. Despite established diagnostic criteria, such as the Amsterdam guidelines, Lynch syndrome remains largely underdiagnosed. To address this gap, universal tumour screening has been introduced for all newly diagnosed cases of colorectal cancer and endometrial cancer, significantly improving early detection.

Gallstone disease during pregnancy, or cholelithiasis, presents significant clinical challenges due to hormonal, anatomical, and metabolic changes. Progesterone therapy, commonly used in pregnancy for uterine bleeding, can exacerbate gallstone risk by reducing gallbladder motility and promoting cholesterol gallstone formation. Periodontal Endoscopy for Mechanical Debridement in the Non-Surgical Management of Peri-Implantitis: A Narrative Review.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Department of Periodontology and Oral Mucosa Diseases, Medical University of Warsaw, Binieckiego 6 St., 02-097 Warsaw, Poland.

: The aim of the present narrative review is to synthesize the available scientific evidence on the effects of submarginal instrumentation with periodontal endoscopy and evaluate its' potential efficacy in terms of the non-surgical therapy of peri-implantitis. : The literature search was performed via electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus, and was supplemented by manual searching. A literature review was conducted addressing the following PICOS questions: (1) What is the efficacy of non-surgical submarginal instrumentation of the implant surface with the aid of a periodontal endoscope in patients with peri-implantitis? (2) What is the efficacy of non-surgical subgingival instrumentation performed with the aid of a periodontal endoscope compared with conventional subgingival instrumentation in patients with periodontitis, in terms of clinical parameters and patient-reported outcomes? Mechanical decontamination of the implant surface is crucial for resolving inflammation and arresting further bone loss.

Palliative surgery aims to improve the quality of life for patients with incurable diseases. This patient group is vulnerable due to the underlying illness, prior treatment and comorbidities, which increase the risk of complications that can negatively impact the course of the disease and quality of life. Palliative surgical interventions often provide effective long-term symptom control but are more invasive than conservative, interventional endoscopic or interventional radiological alternatives.

January 2025

Institut de la main Nantes-Atlantique, Saint-Herblain, France.

Osteoarthritis of the scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal joint is frequent but often pain-free or well tolerated with non-surgical treatment. Surgical options are numerous and none seems to have clear evidence of superiority. In addition to well-established procedures, such as scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal joint arthrodesis, distal scaphoid resection and trapeziectomy, more recent surgical techniques have been reported.
