Thirty-seven rabbits were immunized against lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli or Salmonella enteritidis over a period of up to 16 months. The animals developed antibodies against rabbit renal glycoproteins and against bacterial polysaccharide; they also showed signs of kidney lesions. The immunoperoxidase test showed antibody and complement (C3) fixation on the periphery of glomeruli and tubules. Antibodies extracted from the kidneys of the immunized animals reacted with isologous and autologous renal glycoproteins, suggesting that the renal lesions were due to an immunologic response. The cross-reactivity between the bacterial lipopolysaccharide and the renal glycoproteins appears to be responsible for these lesions.

Background: Vascular calcification is common and progressive in patients with chronic kidney disease. However, the risk factors associated with the progression of vascular calcification in patients receiving maintenance dialysis have not been fully elucidated. Here, we aimed to evaluate vascular calcification and identify the factors associated with its progression in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis.

This study aimed to profile metabolites from five Trichoderma strains and assess their cytotoxic and pharmacological activities, particularly targeting oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). UHPLC-TOF-MS analysis revealed the presence of 25 compounds, including heptelidic acid, viridiol isomers, and sorbicillinol from the different Trichoderma extracts. Pharmacokinetic analysis showed moderate permeability and low interaction with P-glycoprotein, suggesting good drug absorption with minimal interference in cellular uptake.

Background: In the UK, booster COVID-19 vaccinations have been recommended biannually to people considered immune vulnerable. We investigated, at a population level, whether the absence of detectable anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein IgG antibody (anti-S Ab) following three or more vaccinations in immunosuppressed individuals was associated with greater risks of infection and severity of infection.
Methods: In this prospective cohort study using UK national disease registers, we recruited participants with solid organ transplants (SOTs), rare autoimmune rheumatic diseases (RAIRDs), and lymphoid malignancies.

Microalbuminuria is the earliest clinical abnormality in diabetic kidney disease. High glucose (HG) concentrations are associated with the induction of oxidative stress in podocytes, leading to disruption of the glomerular filtration barrier. Our recent study revealed a significant decrease in the membrane-bound fraction of Klotho in podocytes that were cultured under HG conditions.

Fibronectin glomerulopathy (FG) is caused by fibronectin 1 () gene mutations. A renal biopsy was performed on a 4-year-old girl with incidentally discovered proteinuria (150 mg/dL); her family history of renal disease was negative. Markedly enlarged glomeruli (mean glomerular diameter: 196 μm; age-matched controls: 140 μm), α-SMA-positive and Ki-67-positive mesangial cell proliferation (glomerular proliferation index 1.
