Copper in colorectal cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Carcinogenesis

January 2025

Universidad de Granada, Departamento de Medicina Preventiva y Salud Pública, 18016 Granada, Spain.

Several clinical studies have evaluated the relationship between copper on colorectal cancer (CRC), but the results are contradictory. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate copper measured in two biological matrices (serum/plasma/blood and tissue) and dietary intake in CRC patients compared to healthy controls. We conducted a comprehensive and systematic search in PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science.

Intranasal iron administration induces iron deposition, immunoactivation, and cell-specific vulnerability in the olfactory bulb of C57BL/6 mice.

Zool Res

January 2025

School of Basic Medicine, Institute of Brain Science and Disease, Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Pathogenesis and Prevention of Brain Diseases, Qingdao University, Qingdao, Shandong, 266071, China. E-mail:

Iron is the most abundant transition metal in the brain and is essential for brain development and neuronal function; however, its abnormal accumulation is also implicated in various neurological disorders. The olfactory bulb (OB), an early target in neurodegenerative diseases, acts as a gateway for environmental toxins and contains diverse neuronal populations with distinct roles. This study explored the cell-specific vulnerability to iron in the OB using a mouse model of intranasal administration of ferric ammonium citrate (FAC).

Electronic address:

The mechanically-activated ion channel PIEZO1 is critical to numerous physiological processes, and is activated by diverse mechanical cues. The channel is gated by membrane tension and has been found to be mobile in the plasma membrane. We employed single particle tracking (SPT) of endogenous, tdTomato-tagged PIEZO1 using Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy in live cells.

Background: Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is a heterogeneous condition characterized by complex pathophysiological changes affecting both autonomic and somatic components of the nervous system. Inflammation and oxidative stress are recognized contributors to the pathogenesis of DN. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of dichloroacetic acid (DCA) in alleviating DN symptoms, focusing on its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Radially Distributed Electron Transfer on Single-Crystalline Surface of Gold Microplates.

ACS Nano

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai 201620, China.

Electron transfer is ubiquitous in many chemical reactions and biological phenomena; however, the spatial heterogeneities of electron transfer kinetics in electrocatalysis are so far insufficiently resolved. Measuring and understanding the localized electron transfer are crucial to deciphering the intrinsic activity of electrocatalysts and to achieving further improvements in performance. By using scanning electrochemical probe microscopy to spatially resolve redox electrochemistry across the single-crystalline surface of gold microplates, we discover an intriguing radially distributed electron transfer pattern, where the kinetics around the periphery region are significantly higher than those at the central region, regardless of the redox reaction types.
