Insulin degradation in IM-9 cultured human lymphocytes occurs extracellularly. In the presence of 0.1% bovine serum albumin, insulin degradation products are formed that are soluble in 5% trichloroacetic acid. In the presence of 5% bovine serum albumin, the major products of insulin degradation are insoluble in 5% trichloroacetic acid and have little or no biological activity. Inhibition of binding with Concanavalin A or antireceptor antibody does not affect the rate of insulin degradation.

Background: Obesity is associated with varying degrees of metabolic dysfunction. In this study, we aimed to discover markers of the severity of metabolic impairment in men with obesity via a multiomics approach.
Methods: Thirty-two morbidly men with obesity who were candidates for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery were prospectively followed.

Background: Gallstones, a common surgical condition globally, affect around 20% of patients. The development of gallstones is linked to abnormal cholesterol and bilirubin metabolism, reduced gallbladder function, insulin resistance, biliary infections, and genetic factors. In addition to these factors, research has shown that mucins play a role in gallstone formation.

Multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable hematological malignancy that necessitates the identification of novel therapeutic strategies. Here, we report that intracellular levels of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) control the cytotoxicity of MM chemotherapeutic agents. Inhibition of VLCFA biosynthesis reduced cell death in MM cells caused by the proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib.

Pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is emerging as a worldwide health concern with the potential to advance to cirrhosis and liver cancer. NAFLD can also directly contribute to heart problems through inflammation and insulin resistance, even in individuals without other risk factors. The pathological mechanisms of NAFLD are linked to functional differences of miRNAs in different biological environments.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of daily insulin dose increases in managing inpatient hyperglycemia.
Methods: Retrospective study of patients discharged from two urban academic medical centers and three large suburban community hospitals between 2015 and 2019 who received ≥10 units of basal insulin on any day. On hyperglycemic days (mean glucose ≥180 mg/dL), we categorized the relative insulin dose increases into four categories based on percentage changes from the previous day.
