Regional migratory osteoporosis is an uncommon entity charcterized by sudden attacks of migrating lower extremity paraarticular pain, local edema, and muscle atrophy; the disease is verified by radiologic demineralization and bone scan uptake. The etiology and pathogenesis are unknown. We describe a case of regional migratory osteoporosis followed over nine years by serial electromyographic studies documenting denervation patterns coincident in time and location of each acute attack. The substantiation of denervation in regional migratory osteoporosis is of both diagnostic and pathogenetic significance.

The Indian scad, Decapterus russelli is one of the most exploited pelagic resources of India. Population genetic analyses using mitochondrial and nuclear markers indicated a lack of genetic structuring among populations from Indian waters. Wind turbines used to combat climate change pose a green-green dilemma when endangered and protected wildlife species are killed by collisions with rotating blades. Here, we investigated the geographic origin of bats killed by wind turbines along an east-west transect in France to determine the spatial extent of this conflict in Western Europe. We analysed stable hydrogen isotopes in the fur keratin of 60 common noctule bats (Nyctalus noctula) killed by wind turbines during summer migration in four regions of France to predict their geographic origin using models based on precipitation isoscapes.

Migratory water birds are considered to be carriers of high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs). In Japan, mallards are often observed during winter, and HPAIV-infected mallards often shed viruses asymptomatically. In this study, we focused on mallards as potential carriers of HPAIVs and investigated whether individual wild mallards are repeatedly infected with HPAIVs and act as HPAIV carriers multiple times within a season.
