The human cell line, GCT, secretes hemopoietins into serum-free culture medium. The conditioned medium contains activities that stimulate neutrophil-monocyte, macrophage, eosinophil, and erythroid colony growth in human marrow cultures. We have used hydrophobic adsorption chromatography to separate a neutrophil-monocyte colony-stimulating factor (CSF) from the other colony-stimulating activities. This hydrophobic CSF has no eosinophil-stimulating activity and is virtually devoid of erythroid-stimulating activity.

The lipophilicity of thirteen tacrine/piperidine-4-carboxamide derivatives was assessed using reversed-phase thin-layer chromatography (RP-TLC) with MeOH and acetonitrile (ACN) as organic modifiers. Among the parameters evaluated, the R and C values obtained using MeOH were identified as the most reliable for characterizing the lipophilicity of the investigated compounds. The observed differences in lipophilicity among the derivatives resulted from a delicate interplay of substituent effects (hydrophobicity, polarity, steric hindrance, and electronic effects), positional influence, and characteristics of the organic modifier.

Unlike homogeneous metal complexes, achieving absolute control over reaction selectivity in heterogeneous catalysts remains a formidable challenge due to the unguided molecular adsorption/desorption on metal-surface sites. Oligonucleotides (ONs) are an increasingly popular category of molecules in the pharmaceutical landscape, particularly attractive for the treatment of genetic and rare diseases. However, analyzing these molecules presents significant challenges, due to their highly hydrophilic nature, multiple negative charges, and the presence of closely related impurities resulting from the complex solid-phase synthesis process. To understand xylan-cellulose interactions in softwood, the adsorption behavior of hexameric softwood xylan proxies with various substitutions was analyzed on the three surfaces of a hexagonal cellulose microfibril. The study found that all surfaces could bind xylan motifs, showing equally high affinity for the hydrophilic (110) and hydrophobic (100) surfaces and significantly lower affinity for the hydrophilic (11̅0) surface. Unsubstituted xylose hexamers had the highest affinity and most ordered adsorption structures, while substitutions generally reduced the affinity and regularity.
