Background: Patients post hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) are highly susceptible to infection (CDI). Exposure to antibiotic treatment, chemotherapeutic disruption to bacterial microbiome, immunosuppressive therapy, and prolonged hospitalizations synergistically contribute to the risk of CDI and its recurrence. The purpose of this study is to assess if the adjunctive administration of bezlotoxumab decreases the rate of recurrent CDI in patients post-HSCT.

Intratumoral delivery of Mitomycin C using bio-responsive Gellan Gum Nanogel: In-vitro evaluation and enhanced chemotherapeutic efficacy.

Int J Biol Macromol

Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow 226031, India; Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad 201002, India. Electronic address:

Intratumoral drug delivery systems hold immense promise in overcoming the limitations of conventional IV chemotherapy, particularly in enhancing therapeutic efficacy and minimizing systemic side effects. In this study, we introduce a novel redox-responsive intratumoral nanogel system that combines the biocompatibility of natural polysaccharides with the tailored properties of synthetic polymers. The nanogel features a unique cross-linked architecture incorporating redox-sensitive segments, designed to leverage the elevated glutathione levels in the tumor microenvironment for controlled drug release.

In this study, we assessed the utility of ultrasonography in monitoring the chemotherapeutic effects on primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL). This retrospective analysis included 17 patients with PTL who received chemotherapy from 2012 to 2022. The sonographic features were examined pre- and post-treatment using ultrasound (US) to monitor the treatment response at the first to second, third to fourth, and end cycles of chemotherapy and follow-up, and progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.

Macrophage-Mediated Liquid Metal Nanoparticles for Enhanced Tumor Accumulation and Inhibition.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of New Textile Materials and Advanced Processing Technologies, Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan 430200, China.

In most studies, the penetration of nanoparticles into tumors was mainly dependent on the enhanced permeability and retention (ERP) effect. However, the penetration of nanoparticles would be limited by tumor-dense structure, immune system, and other factors. To solve these problems, macrophages with active tropism to tumor tissues, loaded nanoparticles with photothermal therapy, and chemotherapy were designed.

Chemotherapy serves as the primary treatment for cancers, facing challenges due to the emergence of drug resistance. Combination therapy has been developed to combat cancer drug resistance, yet it still suffers from lack of specific targeting of cancer cells and poor accumulation at the tumor site. Consequently, targeted administration of chemotherapy medications has been employed in cancer treatment.
