Estrogens are involved in the etiology of breast cancer. Their blastomogenic influence may be partly realized through their conversion into catecholestrogens, rate of which may be modified by smoking. The risk of having breast cancer diagnosed can increase in women using estrogen replacement therapy (ERT).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe levels of tryptophan metabolites in the urine of 30 isoniazid--and phthivazid--treated patients with tuberculosis and 25 healthy subjects were determined by paper chromatography. The urine of healthy subjects was found to contain tryptophan, indican, tryptamine and urea, while that of tuberculosis patients--tryptophan metabolites, including 3-hydroxykynurenine, known as carcinogen. Administration of pyridoxine does not eliminate metabolic disturbances caused by anti-tuberculosis of preparations, while thiamine may inhibit pyridoxine enzymes, thus aggravating these disorders.
