A mathematical model for visual-vestibular interaction during body rotation in an illuminated visual surround is obtained by combining a previous model of the optokinetic reflex (OKR) with a simplified model of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). OKR is activated by the slip of the image of the external world on the retina, and represents a negative feedback loop around VOR. For large retinal slip velocities OKR behaves as a basically non-linear system. The validity of the model is proved via computer simulation by comparing predicted responses with the experimental results obtained in man by Koenig et al. (1978) in different situations of visual-vestibular interaction.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has gained popularity across various fields; however, its use often induces cybersickness, characterized by symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and eye strain. This study investigated the differences in cybersickness levels and head movement patterns under three distinct VR viewing conditions: dynamic VR (DVR), static VR (SVR), and a control condition (CON) using a simulator. Background: The rod and frame test (RFT), a measure of field dependence-independence, recently has reemerged as a measure of research interest and potential diagnostic value in neuropsychology. In the standard RFT, the subject experiences offsetting visual cues from a frame surrounding an embedded rod, while the subject's postural/vestibular cues provide the sense of verticality as the subject attempts to set the rod to vertical. The paper shows that RFTs not adhering to RFT parameters can reduce the test's visual framework impact experienced by the subject.
