Background: Hospital studies suggest that scrub typhus is a leading cause of severe undifferentiated fever in regions across Asia where the disease is endemic, but the population-based incidence of infection and illness has been little studied.
Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort study to assess epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of scrub typhus in 37 villages in Tamil Nadu, India, where the disease is highly endemic. Study participants were visited every 6 to 8 weeks over a period of 2 years; a venous blood sample was obtained from those who had had fever since the last visit.

Background: Point-of-care testing (PoCT) is an increasingly important diagnostic tool in the healthcare system for accessible pathology testing in hospital, primary care, and community care settings. Clear regulation and governance models are important to ensure quality of PoCT results for patient care.
Methods: This review aimed to identify existing regulation and guidelines for management of PoCT and how this has been implemented within Australian healthcare services.

Purpose: To determine the profile of inflammation-related proteins and complement system factors in the plasma of CRB1-associated inherited retinal dystrophies (CRB1-IRDs).
Methods: We used the Olink Explore 384 Inflammation II panel for targeted proteomics in 30 cases and 29 controls (cohort I) to identify immune pathways involved in CRB1-IRDs. Genotyping was performed in cohort I and a second cohort of 123 patients from 14 countries and 1292 controls (cohort II).

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and those NCDs contributing most burden - cardiometabolic illness, diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease - can be largely prevented through improvements in health behaviours such as tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, exposure to environmental hazards, unhealthy dietary habits, and physical inactivity. Despite concerted efforts at all levels of health care provision and policy, population-level health behaviour change still presents an ongoing challenge to primary care clinicians, public health practitioners, health promotion specialists and government agencies around the world. An individual's age can influence their health behaviour decision-making as younger people often perceive the potential implications of their current poor health behaviours as remote in time and possibility, which may significantly limit their motivation to make a positive health behaviour change in the present.

Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a type of neuropathic (nerve) pain that persists for more than 3 months after crusting of the last shingles lesion. It is difficult to relieve with analgesic/adjuvant medications, and so novel analgesics are needed. Our aim was to use a rat model of varicella zoster virus (VZV)-induced neuropathic pain to assess the pain relief efficacy of several small molecule angiotensin II type 2 (AT) receptor antagonists (PD123,319, EMA300, and EMA401) relative to clinically used analgesic/adjuvant agents from four different pharmacological classes.
