In modern dentistry, restorations that are more aesthetically pleasing have now replaced the amalgam restorations. The "stamp technique" is one of the more recently developed techniques for combining aesthetics and functionality. When caries are visible on radiographs or clinical examinations of teeth with complete marginal ridges and an ideal tooth structure, this method can be used.

Teeth bleaching is an accepted and modern treatment in cosmetic dentistry. Bleaching agents may affect amalgam restorations and increase mercury release; therefore, patients are at increased risk of mercury exposure in the body. Better understanding of dentists' decision-making about defective restorations is needed to close the evidence-practice gap (EPG). this study aimed to quantify the EPG about defective restorations and identify dentist factors associated with this EPG. 216 dentists from São Paulo State, Brazil, completed a questionnaire about three clinical case scenarios involving defective composite restorations with cementum-dentin margins (case 1) and enamel margins (case 2), and an amalgam (case 3) restoration.
