Aflatoxin B-induced DNA adduct formation in murine kidney and liver.

Environ Toxicol Pharmacol

January 2025

Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, Oregon Health & Science University, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, Oregon 97239; Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics, Oregon Health & Science University, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, Oregon 97239.

Aflatoxicosis is a life-threatening nephrotoxic condition arising from eating foods highly contaminated with aflatoxin-producing molds. Additionally, chronic aflatoxin exposures are linked to enhanced hepatocellular carcinomas. Using recent advances in mass spectrometry for the detection of aflatoxin B (AFB) DNA adducts, we present data which show generation of these adducts in the kidney, albeit at ≈100-fold lower levels than in the liver of the same animal.

Background: Normal brain aging is associated with dopamine decline, which has been linked to age-related cognitive decline. Factors underlying individual differences in dopamine integrity at older ages remain, however, unclear. Here we aimed at investigating: (i) whether inflammation is associated with levels and 5-year changes of in vivo dopamine D2-receptor (DRD2) availability, (ii) if DRD2-inflammation associations differ between men and women, and (iii) whether inflammation and cerebral small-vessel disease (white-matter lesions) serve as two independent predictors of DRD2 availability.

The activation of astrocytes in the injured lesion induces the progression of spinal cord injury (SCI). However, adverse side-effects during systemic administration have limited applications. Exosomes (Exos) are an emerging clinical treatment method that exerts anti-inflammatory effects by reducing pro-inflammatory factors and promoting functional recovery.

Periapical bone edema volume in 3D MRI is positively correlated with bone architecture changes.

Insights Imaging

January 2025

Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, University Hospital of Zurich, University Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland.

Objectives: To compare and correlate bone edema volume detected by 3D-short-tau-inversion-recovery (STIR) sequence to osseous decay detected by a T1-based sequence and conventional panoramic radiography (OPT).

Materials And Methods: Patients with clinical evidence of apical periodontitis were included retrospectively and received OPT as well as MRI of the viscerocranium including a 3D-STIR and a 3D-T1 gradient echo sequence. Bone edema was visualized using the 3D-STIR sequence and periapical hard tissue changes were evaluated using the 3D-T1 sequence.

Specific immunohistochemical expression of Mmp-26 in prostatic adenocarcinoma.

An Acad Bras Cienc

January 2025

Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Departamento de Histologia e Embriologia, Av. Prof. Moraes Rego, 1235, Cidade Universitária, 50760-420 Recife, PE, Brazil.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) have been identified as biomarkers for several diseases, including cancer. The increase in the expression of these enzymes has been related to greater tumor aggressiveness. MMP-26 is expressed constitutively in the endometrium and some cancer cells of epithelial origin.
